Studying to become an ICB member is not easy. In addition to multiple exams, students are often juggling a job or the demands of a family. And with an 80% pass mark, these exams are not for the faint hearted!

But it’s worth it, because students know they are fully equipped for life as a bookkeeper. What’s more, you have the industry gold standard behind you. You’re not just a bookkeeper, you’re an ICB Bookkeeper.

This award is given to the ICB student who has achieved success in one or more ICB exams. Of course, passing an ICB exam is a great achievement, but a LUCA Awards Student of the Year will be someone who has passed all their exams whilst also doing things outside of ICB, such as working full time, or studying during difficult circumstances. The Student of the Year will be someone whom everyone can be inspired by. Your entry should tell your story and explain your student journey.

Encourage students to strive for excellence in their studies and professional growth.

Recognise the future leaders of the bookkeeping profession.

1. Nominations for the Student of the Year LUCA Award can be submitted by an ICB student or their Accredited Training Provider (ATP), or by another person associated with the student.

2. The nominee must have been registered with ICB as a student for no fewer than 90 days during the 12 months immediately preceding the LUCA Awards.

3. The nominee must hold current valid ICB student registration or membership.

We are looking for a practice that has opened its doors and hit the ground running! The winner will be a practice that has achieved great success (on their own terms) in no longer than the past 18 months, with a good reputation with clients, and has a solid strategy for success.

The award recognises outstanding achievement and innovation in the field of bookkeeping by newly established practices. It celebrates excellence in financial management, client service, and overall contribution to the bookkeeping profession.

Small Practice of the Year

The ICB LUCA Award for Small Practice is a prestigious recognition given to small bookkeeping practices that demonstrate exceptional service, innovation, and professionalism in their field. It is for those who size ranges from sole practitioners up to two full time equivalent employees OR who have up to 49 clients. This award celebrates practices that not only excel in delivering high-quality bookkeeping services but also show a commitment to continuous improvement, client satisfaction, and ethical standards.

Have you increased your turnover or gone above and beyond for your clients? Have you successfully rebranded or refocused your marketing efforts to appeal to a new customer segment? Share your story with the world!

To be eligible for this award, your practice must:

Hold a current ICB Practice Licence and have been a supervised practice (by ICB, HMRC or other governing body) for at least 18 months

In addition, your practice must meet one of the following criteria:

Employ between one and two full-time employees, including the owner. This can include more than two part-time staff
- Freelancers may be included if they have worked with the practice regularly over the past 12 months, with at least six separate engagements.
- Staff roles do not all need to be bookkeeping-specific.

OR

Provide regular bookkeeping services to up to 49 active clients.

This award celebrates outstanding medium-sized bookkeeping practices that demonstrate excellence in client service, professionalism, and innovation. Eligible practices will typically have 2 to 4 full-time equivalent team members or manage between 50 and 149 clients.

Judges will be looking for a practice that has achieved notable success over the past year. This might include maintaining strong and lasting client relationships, delivering consistently high standards of work, embracing technology to improve processes, or creating a positive impact within their community or client sector. The winning practice will be one that stands out for its ambition, professionalism, and contribution to the wider bookkeeping profession.

To be eligible for this award, the nominated practice must meet one or both of the following criteria:

Employ between 2 and 4 full-time equivalent (FTE) team members, and/or

Provide regular bookkeeping services to between 50 and 149 active clients
Hold a current ICB Practice Licence and have been a supervised practice (by ICB, HMRC or other governing body) for at least 18 months.

Client Service
Evidence of strong client relationships, high levels of client satisfaction, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality work.
Professional Standards
Adherence to ICB’s Code of Conduct, ongoing CPD, and an active commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
Innovation and Use of Technology
Smart use of software and digital tools to improve workflows, enhance client experience, or drive efficiency.
Business Growth and Development
Tangible success in terms of growing the practice, expanding services, or refining internal processes over the past 12 months.
Contribution to the Profession or Community

Medium Practice of the Year

Large Practice of the Year

The ICB Large Practice Award is a distinguished accolade that honours large bookkeeping practices for their exceptional service, innovation, and professional standards. This award recognises practices that provide outstanding bookkeeping services while demonstrating significant growth, technological advancement, and a strong commitment to both client satisfaction and professional development.

The Large Practice of the Year winner will be one that has had great success in the past year, whilst having five or more workers and hasn’t fallen below that number for more than 12 months. Or they will have over 150 clients. Success for a large practice could be consistently retaining and delighting clients, running unique and effective marketing campaigns, servicing a unique client sector, or making an impact in their community.

To be eligible for this award, your practice must:

Hold a current ICB Practice Licence and have been a supervised practice (by ICB, HMRC or other governing body) for at least 18 months

In addition, your practice must meet one of the following criteria:

Employ five or more full-time equivalent (FTE) team members, including the owner.
- This can include part-time staff, provided the total FTE is five or more.
- Freelancers may be included if they have worked with the practice regularly over the past 12 months, with at least six separate engagements.
- Team members do not all need to hold bookkeeping roles.

OR

Provide regular bookkeeping services to 150 or more active clients.

The practice must have met these criteria for at least 12 consecutive months leading up to the LUCA Awards.

The Branch of the Year will be awarded to the branch and branch chair who have welcomed ICB students and members with open arms! We're looking for a branch that is not only friendly and inclusive, but also able to prove it's had a positive impact on the membership experience for their group; raising the profile of ICB and supporting the development of its students and members.

The awards recognises the ICB branch that has shown exceptional performance, innovation, and commitment to supporting its members and the bookkeeping profession. This award celebrates branches that excel in member engagement, professional development, community involvement, and overall contribution to the ICB’s mission and values.

The ICB Award for Excellent Client Experience is a distinguished recognition that honours bookkeeping practices or individual bookkeepers who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to providing exceptional service and creating positive experiences for their clients.

This award celebrates those who go above and beyond in ensuring client satisfaction, building strong client relationships, and delivering high-quality, reliable services.

Your practice must have an ICB Practice Licence for no less than 18 months immediately preceding the LUCA Awards.
Nominations can be submitted by you, your employer, or by another person associated with either you or the company your work for.
The nominated bookkeeper or bookkeeping team must include a current ICB student or member of ICB and have been part of their employer’s business for no less than 12 months immediately preceding the LUCA Awards.

Service Excellence:

- Timely and accurate financial reporting and bookkeeping tasks.
- Proactive communication and responsiveness to client needs and inquiries.

ICB Tutor of the Year

Training Provider (ATP) who has made a significant impact on their students’ learning and development.

Nominations must be submitted by the ATP and may include more than one tutor. The nominated tutor must have been in continuous employment with the nominating ATP for at least one year prior to the LUCA Awards ceremony. Employment with other ATPs will not be considered.

The nomination should explain why the tutor deserves to be recognised as Tutor of the Year and must include key details such as the tutor’s name, employment status, length of service, and any relevant disciplinary or student feedback history within the past twelve months.

Supporting material, including student testimonials or letters of recommendation, is encouraged and should be submitted via the online application form before the deadline.

To be eligible for this award:

The nominee must be an individual tutor currently employed by an ICB Accredited Training Provider (ATP).

The tutor must have been in continuous employment with the nominating ATP for at least 12 months prior to the LUCA Awards ceremony.

Previous employment with other ATPs will not count towards eligibility.

Nominations must be submitted directly by the ATP. An ATP may nominate more than one tutor, but a separate submission is required for each nominee.

The nomination must include:

The tutor’s full name

Their employment status

Length of service with the nominating ATP

A record of any disciplinary action or relevant student feedback in the past 12 months (if applicable)

Supporting material, such as student testimonials or letters of recommendation, is encouraged and should be submitted via the online nomination form by the stated deadline.

Judges will be looking for evidence of a tutor who goes above and beyond to support their students and contribute to the success of their training provider. Strong nominations will demonstrate:

A consistent and positive impact on student outcomes and experiences
High levels of student engagement, motivation, and satisfaction
Innovative or effective teaching approaches that enhance learning
Responsiveness to individual student needs and challenges
Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement
Strong alignment with ICB values and standards

Judges may also take into consideration any supporting statements from students or colleagues, and will look for a well-rounded view of the tutor’s role, reliability, and influence within the training environment.

Nominations must be submitted by the ATP and may include more than one tutor. The nominated tutor must have been in continuous employment with the nominating ATP for at least one year prior to the LUCA Awards ceremony. Employment with other ATPs will not be considered.

Agricultural Bookkeeper of the Year

The ICB LUCA Award for Agricultural Bookkeeper of the Year recognises the outstanding contributions of bookkeepers and farm secretaries working within the agricultural sector. This award celebrates those who demonstrate deep sector knowledge, provide dedicated support to farming clients, and show sensitivity to the unique challenges of working with family-run and multi-generational businesses. Candidates will show excellence in managing seasonal demands, navigating complex supply chains, and staying up to date with ever-changing rural and agricultural legislation.

This award is open to an ICB supervised practice, regardless of size, or an individual or team within an ICB supervised practice
The practice must hold valid ICB supervision at the time of the LUCA Awards
The practice must have been supervised by ICB for a period of not less than 18 months immediately preceding the LUCA Awards.
Nominations may be submitted by you, the practice, an individual or team within the practice, a client or any other business or organisation with knowledge of the individual, team or practice

Sector Expertise:

Strong understanding of agricultural business models, including farm accounting, subsidies, and fluctuating incomes.

Ability to manage irregular cash flow, stock and machinery valuations, and grant reporting.

Familiarity with agricultural software and tools commonly used in the sector.

Client Relationships:

Trusted advisor status with long-standing farming clients.

Respectful and confidential handling of family and partnership dynamics.

Proven ability to communicate financial concepts in a way that suits each client’s working style and knowledge.

Compliance and Knowledge:

Confidence in applying legislation specific to farming, such as VAT schemes, agricultural property relief, and environmental grants.

Commitment to continuous professional development in rural affairs and compliance.

Supporting clients in meeting regulatory deadlines and industry standards.

Adaptability and Support:

Flexibility in working around farming schedules and remote/rural settings.

Responsive support during peak seasons such as harvest, lambing, or end of financial year.

Going above and beyond to ensure the client’s books are in order, even when faced with unpredictable conditions.

Professionalism and Integrity:

Adherence to the ICB’s code of ethics and conduct.

Discretion and professionalism in close-knit rural communities.

Honest and fair representation of client interests.

Nominations can be submitted by you, or by another person associated with your practice via our online tool called Awards Force, which can be found here.

We encourage any additional documentation and supporting material, such as promotional videos, client testimonials, case studies, or letters of support from clients and colleagues. These can be uploaded as an attachment to your original nomination or added later at any point prior to the deadline.
